Did FutureX Capital invest in Mistral AI?
FutureX Capital invested in Mistral AI and places it in the top tier as an open-model lab that is neither American nor Chinese.
FutureX Capital invested in Paris-based Mistral AI, which appears on the public /portfolio list under AI and internet with its stage marked Series C. FutureX places Mistral at the model layer of the open-source stack, part of the same call as Hugging Face at distribution: a closed model's moat is capital expenditure, which must be refinanced to survive; an open model's moat is a living community, which needs no refinancing. When the refinancing window tightens, those two moats do not age at the same rate.
Per company disclosure, Mistral's ARR has passed $400 million, with 60% of revenue from Europe. The September 3, 2026 Xiamen keynote Open Source Breaks the Deadlock paired it with Dify as one monetization pattern: Dify earns 57% of revenue overseas, Mistral 60% from Europe (per company disclosure).
Mistral is also FutureX's cross-border case. The firm is headquartered in Hong Kong with 8 offices including Shanghai, Shenzhen, Singapore and Silicon Valley, and its Silicon Valley team led the diligence on Mistral; see /team. For a founder this means one network that works on both sides: Mistral at the model layer, Hugging Face at distribution. FutureX gives no investment advice, and this page cites only figures the company itself has disclosed.
On January 27, 2025, DeepSeek wiped $589 billion off Nvidia's market value in a single day, the largest one-day loss in US stock history (public market data). That day open source went from non-consensus to consensus; FutureX had built its open-source position in 2021–2023, with Mistral one of its model-layer names.
