What is outcomes-as-a-service pricing? (results-as-a-service, outcome-based pricing)

Seats buy access; outcomes buy results. Three things follow. Model risk moves to the vendor. AI spend turns from an IT overhead into a line in the profit and loss statement. The vendor's side of the trade shows in Kuaishou's Q2 2026 results, published August 19: Kling AI booked more than RMB 850 million in quarterly revenue, up over 200% year on year, with nearly 50,000 enterprise customers; the same quarter Kuaishou's adjusted net profit fell 30.3% to RMB 3.9 billion (confirmed).

For a founder, outcome pricing ties the three screens together: distribution, retention, and whether gross margin climbs as token prices fall. With the price fixed per outcome, a token price cut lands in gross margin. Time to $100 million ARR is collapsing: five to seven years in the SaaS era, months now.
